Suspect (Arrested):     Oscar Casillas, Hispanic male, 24 years of age

The Austin Police Department (APD) Aggravated Assault and Gang Units have been investigating a Deadly Conduct series that began on July 14, 2024, and targeted a residence in the 2900 block of Lyons Road.

On July 14, 2024, the Austin Police Department received a 9-1-1 call in reference to a report of Shots Fired in the area of Fiesta Street and Lyons Road. When officers arrived on the scene, they were unable to locate the source of the reported gunfire. Officers were not contacted by any victims and the caller had no other information that would have prompted further investigation.

On July 15, 2024, APD responded to another report of Shots Fired in the area of Fiesta Street and Lyons Road. Upon making contact with the complainant, responding officers identified a victim who resided in the 2900 block of Lyons Road. A Deadly Conduct report was filed.

On July 16, 2024, the victim reported another incident of Deadly Conduct to an investigator with the APD Criminal Investigations Division. At the time the victim notified the investigator, three acts of Deadly Conduct had been committed. The series of shootings, occurring between July 14, 2024 and July 16, 2024, were committed during the late night and early morning hours.

As the investigation was being conducted, another series of Deadly Conducts were committed against the victim which occurred between August 8, 2024 and August 10, 2024. The Deadly Conducts on August 8 and August 9 were committed during the late evening and early morning hours. The August 10 incident was committed during early afternoon hours in broad daylight. Additional information was gathered during the August series which furthered the investigation that was already underway.

On August 30, 2024, at approximately 7:50 a.m., another Deadly Conduct was committed against the victim. The APD Aggravated Assault Unit and APD Gang Unit mobilized immediately, and were on scene within minutes of the call. The response led to the identification of a person of interest and identification of a possible suspect vehicle.

On September 6, 2024, based on the collaborative work of APD’s Aggravated Assault Unit and APD’s Gang Unit, six 3rd degree Felony Warrants were filed for the suspect in this case, who was identified as 24-year-old Oscar Casillas, a Hispanic male.

On September 17, 2024, with the assistance of the APD Tactical Intelligence Unit and the United States Marshal Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, Oscar Casillas was taken into custody at his home in Austin, Texas without incident. Casillas, as of this press release, is out on bond.

This case currently remains under investigation by the Austin Police Department Aggravated Assault Unit and Gang Unit. No further information will be released at this time.
