Case:               24-2961148

Date:               October 22, 2024

Time:               4:21 p.m.

Location:         2500 block of Elmont Drive

The Austin Police Department (APD) Aggravated Assault Unit is continuing to investigate a case involving Aggravated Assault with a Motor Vehicle.

On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at approximately 4:21 p.m., APD officers responded to a Disturbance Vehicle urgent call in the 2500 block of Elmont Drive. The complainant advised that her phone had been stolen. Officers conducted their investigation, and were not able to find a suspect or the stolen phone. Per APD standard operating procedures, officers wrote the incident in a report for a detective to follow up on. Officers left the scene at approximately 5:02 p.m.

At approximately 5:14 p.m., APD officers received a Crash hotshot call at the same location. When officers arrived on the scene, they found multiple victims who appeared to have been struck by a vehicle. Additionally, a food truck was on fire. Two of the victims had minor injuries. Two additional victims were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Further investigation showed that the female who made the initial report for a stolen phone was upset and used her vehicle to strike two victims that were at the food truck, pinning one in between the food truck and the suspect vehicle. The suspect also struck the food truck. The suspect then threatened a person at the food truck with a knife. Investigations showed that the victim she accused of having her phone did not have possession of the suspect’s phone. At this time, the stolen phone has not been accounted for. The suspect did not have any known relation to any of the victims.

The suspect is described as:

  • Hispanic female
  • Approximately 5’5”
  • Approximately 180 lbs

The suspect vehicle is described as:

  • Toyota SUV
  • Gray or tan in color

At this time, the suspect has not been arrested.

This incident is being investigated as an aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, in addition to a failure to stop and render aid crash. This is considered to be an isolated incident, and there is no active threat to the public. This remains an open and ongoing investigation.
