UPDATE: APD Homicide Unit Detectives are requesting the public's assistance with identifying a person of interest in connection to the homicide investigation in the 1900 block of Rutland Drive.

The person of interest is described as:

  • Hispanic male
  • Late 20s to early 30s
  • Approximately 240 to 260 lbs.
  • Between 5’8” to 5’10” tall
  • Long and dark hair
  • Mustache and goatee

Victim (deceased):       Unidentified White female

Suspect (arrested):      Noah Mata, Hispanic male, 36 years of age

 

 
On Saturday, November 16, 2024, at approximately 4:07 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to the 1900 block of Rutland Drive for reports of a shooting. When officers arrived on the scene, they found one female victim on the ground inside the apartment with an apparent gunshot wound. Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) arrived to the scene and attempted life-saving measures, but she was pronounced deceased on the scene at 4:37 a.m. Officers then detained the resident of the next door apartment where the shot had been fired from. The suspect that was detained was later identified as Noah Mata.

Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation showed that Mata had attempted to take a gun from another male in the apartment when the gun fired. The shooting caused the death of the female in the apartment next door.

Mata was arrested for 1st Degree Aggravated Robbery and booked into Travis County jail.

This case is being investigated as Austin's 62nd homicide of 2024.
