Case:  24-3151311

Date:  Sunday, November 10, 2024

Time:  6:31 p.m.

Location:  1900 block of East William Cannon Drive

Victim (deceased):  Elijah Martinez, Hispanic male, 12/27/1984

On Sunday, November 10, 2024, at approximately 6:31 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a shoot/stab hotshot call in the 1900 block of East William Cannon Drive. Multiple callers reported that a male was lying on metal rods on the ground, and was bleeding from possible stab wounds. When officers arrived on the scene, they found one victim, later identified as Elijah Martinez, on the ground, and bleeding from a wound in his chest. Mr. Martinez was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 8:12 p.m.

Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. It was initially unclear if the victim had fallen on something, or been attacked on the sidewalk or elsewhere. Further video canvassing showed that the victim had been stabbed in a homeless encampment next to the AutoZone. Multiple individuals fled the area after the stabbing. At this time, there have not been any suspects identified or arrests made.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS. You may submit your tip anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or by calling 512-472-8477. A reward up to $1,000 may be available for any information that leads to an arrest.

This case is being investigated as Austin's 59th homicide of 2024.
