Suspect (Arrested):    Jacob Gonzalez, Hispanic male, 21 years of age


On Saturday, March 8, 2025, at approximately 4:08 p.m., the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to multiple calls of a shooting in the 1900 block of N. IH 35 SVRD SB. When officers arrived on the scene, they located one victim, later identified as Adan Marez, lying in the roadway with trauma to his body.

Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation showed that Marez had been involved in a road rage incident with the occupants of a gold sedan, which spanned for several miles. Both vehicles were stopped at a stoplight, when Marez exited his Jeep. The driver of the gold sedan, later identified as Jacob Gonzalez, shot and killed Marez. Marez was unarmed when he was shot.

Jacob Gonzalez was arrested and charged with Murder, a First Degree Felony.

Due to the nature of this offense and the large amount of people in the area at the time of the shooting, it is believed privately filmed video of this incident may exist. Detectives are asking anyone with footage of the incident to submit it to Detective Mendall Edwards in the APD Homicide Unit: mendall.edwards@austintexas.gov.
