Date: Thursday, April 24, 2025
Time: 5:49 a.m.
Location: 85 Trinity Street #308
Victim (Deceased): Regina Jones, Black female, 3/30/1968
Suspect (Arrested): Reginald Crosby, Black male, 43 years old
On Thursday, April 24, 2025, at approximately 5:49 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers and the Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) responded to a welfare check at 85 Trinity Street, #308. The caller reported that his girlfriend was unconscious and not breathing. He also mentioned that he and his girlfriend had been involved in an argument the previous night.
When officers arrived, they located the unresponsive female, later identified as Regina Jones. ATCEMS paramedics performed life-saving measures, but Ms. Jones was pronounced deceased at 6:41 a.m.
Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists responded to investigate. Although Crosby admitted to arguing with Jones the night before, his statements led investigators to believe there may have been a medical explanation for her death, specifically suggesting that she might have choked on food. An autopsy was performed on Jones, revealing that a subdural hematoma was the cause of her death. These preliminary findings contradicted Crosby’s claim that choking on food was the reason for Jones’ passing.
Crosby was arrested on May 27, 2025, for an unrelated charge. During his arrest, he spoke with homicide detectives and provided a more detailed account of the events leading up to Ms. Jones’ death. He admitted to slapping Ms. Jones during the argument, causing her head to strike a concrete wall, and then picking her up and throwing her down.
On August 19, 2025, investigators received the final autopsy report identifying the cause of death as homicide by blunt force trauma. That same day, an arrest warrant was issued for Crosby for second-degree manslaughter.
On August 21, 2025, Crosby was taken into custody by the United States Marshals Service’s Lone Star Fugitive Task Force with a warrant for 2nd Degree Manslaughter and was booked into the Travis County Jail.
