On May 17, 2025, at approximately 3:33 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) Officers responded to a crash involving a silver sedan and a white sedan in the 2300 block of E Riverside Dr. The passenger in the silver sedan, later identified as Juanita Cortinas, was pronounce deceased on scene. The driver of the silver sedan was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threating injuries. The driver of the white sedan had minor injuries and was not transported.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 32nd fatal crash of 2025, resulting in 36 fatalities. This investigation is ongoing. On the date of this crash in 2024, 27 fatal crashes resulted in 27 deaths.
