On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 3:09 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a motor vehicle collision involving two cars at the intersection of E SH 71 SVRD WB and S FM 973 Road. One driver was transported to a local hospital, while the driver of the second vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. The driver who was taken to the hospital was later identified as Lynda Pierson. Mrs. Pierson was pronounced deceased on August 16, 2025, at 9:55 p.m.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 64th fatal crash of 2025, resulting in 68 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2024, 55 fatal crashes resulted in 59 deaths.
