On March 20, 2025, at approximately 7:03 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) Officers responded to a collision in the intersection of South Lamar Boulevard SB and Gibson Street. One vehicle collided with a second vehicle before crashing into a cement retaining wall. The driver of the first vehicle was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver and passengers in the second vehicle were not injured, remained on the scene, and cooperated with the investigation.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 19th fatal crash of 2025, resulting in 23 fatalities. This investigation is ongoing. On the date of this crash in 2024, 18 fatal crashes resulted in 18 deaths.
