On Saturday, August 2, 2025, at approximately 3:20 a.m., Austin Police Officers responded to a call that reported someone bleeding in the intersection of North IH 35 Southbound frontage Road and East 8th Street. Officers arrived at the scene and located an unresponsive man, later identified as Jerry Roland, bleeding on the ground. Mr. Roland was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas but pronounced deceased at 3:50 a.m. Witnesses identified a suspect, Scott Graves, who was subsequently detained by officers.
 
Homicides Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation revealed that Mr. Roland walked to Graves’ tent. Graves exited his tent and stabbed Mr. Roland. Graves then dragged his own tent away from the area and walked away before he was detained by officers.
