On September 10, 2025, the Austin Police (APD) Auto Theft Unit, working in partnership with the Cedar Park Police Department and Austin Independent School District (AISD) Police Department, obtained photographs showing a suspect in possession of several firearms stolen during an attempted auto theft. Many of the stolen firearms were National Firearms Act (NFA) regulated items restricted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).
Investigators analyzed and verified the photographs using multiple investigative tools and eyewitness accounts, and confirmed the location was within Austin city limits. Based on this information, detectives executed a search warrant at one of the suspect’s residence.
The search resulted in the recovery of eight firearms, including multiple silencers and short-barreled rifles (SBRs), from the suspect’s bedroom.
Following the seizure, APD detectives secured three arrest warrants for Possession of Prohibited Weapons against the primary suspect. During further investigation and interviews, a second suspect was identified, leading to four additional warrants for the same charge.
Both suspects—juveniles currently on probation for multiple prior offenses—were apprehended without incident and booked into the Gardner Betts Juvenile Justice Center.
