On Sunday, February 8, 2026, at 8:11 p.m., a trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) was in pursuit of a motorcycle on E HWY 290, traveling eastbound. During the pursuit, the trooper lost sight of the motorcycle, and the pursuit was terminated.  Shortly after, it was learned that the motorcycle was involved in a crash in the intersection of E Parmer Ln and Old HWY 20. The motorcycle rider, later identified as Javan O Jackson, was pronounced deceased on scene.
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin’s ninth fatal crash of 2026, resulting in nine fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2025, five fatal crashes resulted in five deaths.
