Jorge Morales presented the award for Engineer of the Year by The Travis Chapter Texas Society of Professional Engineers.

Jorge Morales, Director of Austin Watershed Protection selected as 2026 Engineer of the Year by the Travis Chapter of the Texas Society of Engineers.

Austin, TX —Austin Watershed Protection is proud to announce that Jorge Morales, Director of Austin Watershed Protection, has been selected as the 2026 Engineer of the Year by the Travis Chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. Morales was formally recognized at the group’s Engineers Week banquet on February 27, 2026.

Through his leadership at Austin Watershed Protection, Morales has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to public safety, environmental stewardship, and the advancement of the engineering profession. His selection as Engineer of the Year reflects both his professional accomplishments and his dedication to serving the community.

“Jorge Morales exemplifies the leadership, technical excellence, and commitment to public service that define the engineering profession,” said a representative of the TSPE Travis Chapter. “His work protecting Austin’s waterways and advancing innovative watershed management practices will have a lasting impact on our community.” 

“It is an incredible honor to be named the TSPE Travis Chapter Engineer of the Year,” said Jorge Morales. “This recognition reflects the support and collaboration of so many. I’m deeply grateful to the Austin Watershed Protection team, mentors, colleagues, friends, and partners who have shaped my journey.”

The Engineer of the Year award is the highest honor presented at the local chapter level. The award recognizes a TSPE member who has made outstanding contributions to the engineering profession and to the community. Selection is based on nominees’ education, professional licensure, involvement in professional and technical societies, engineering and career achievements, and civic, humanitarian, and social activities.
