On Sunday, March 1, 2026, at approximately 2:14 a.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a collision involving two motor vehicles and a pedestrian in the 3100 block of State Highway 71 eastbound. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene. The first vehicle that struck the pedestrian left the scene before police arrived. The driver of the second vehicle remained on the scene, was not impaired, and is cooperating with the investigation. 

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 14th fatal crash of 2026, resulting in 14 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2025, eight fatal crashes resulted in eight deaths.
