Austin Police (APD) is conducting an increased DWI Enforcement and No Refusal Initiative that coincides with Spring Break and Spring Festival. This initiative began March 6, 2026, and is in effect each night thru March 22, 2026. Additional officers will be deployed making traffic stops to encourage safe driving behaviors. 
 
This initiative is an effort to enforce DWI laws, keep the public safe by encouraging drivers to make responsible decisions, and to apply for blood search warrants on suspects arrested for DWI who refuse to provide a breath or blood specimen as required by law.
 
Austin Police, Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT), and Austin Transportation are continuously focused on preventing lives from being lost on the streets, highways and waterways of Austin. The department is dedicated to making the roadways and waterways of Austin safe for residents and visitors through education and enforcement. 

As a reminder, APD DWI No Refusal Initiative is year-round and is in effect between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., Monday through Sunday, throughout the entirety of the year.
