Earth Science concepts come alive at Earth Camp as students investigate flow paths across the watershed into creeks and rivers or into the Edwards Aquifer. Earth Camp is an award-winning water quality field science program for fifth-grade students attending Title I schools in the Austin Independent School District. Students spend four school days at outdoor sites participating in hands-on science with Watershed Protection Department youth educators. Students are encouraged to make informed decisions and take actions which promote stewardship of Austin’s beautiful water resources.

Teachers registered to attend Earth Camp for the first time receive online training modules with Safety and Curriculum instruction.  After attending Earth Camp led by City of Austin educators, teachers can continue bringing future classes to Camp by leading Teacher-Led Earth Camp. Transportation, materials and an Earth Camp assistant are provided for each day of Teacher-Led Earth Camp.

Teacher-Led Earth Camp

AISD 5th grade teachers who have been trained and attended a week of Earth Camp led by City staff may participate in Teacher-Led Earth Camp! To schedule, please email our Earth Camp coordinator (earthcamp@austintexas.gov). If you are scheduled for Teacher-Led Earth Camp, an assistant will bring all necessary field trip materials to the field trip site each day.
