2nd Annual Memorial Bomb Suit Run - May 23, 2026

The event will be open to the community who will have an opportunity to meet with Special Operations officers and learn about the resources utilized by our teams. Community members can participate in a 2-mile run event followed by a 1-mile Bomb Suit run. 

Join us on May 23, 2026, at Westlake High School (Chapparal Stadium) for a morning of community, connection, and purpose. Featuring a Spec Ops Display and a community, non-competitive 2-miler, this event brings people together to honor, remember, and support those in our community.

In Memoriam: Jay McCormick #3827, began his career with the Austin Police Department in May of 2002. Jay served in Central East and Downtown Austin before joining the Bomb Squad where he served as a Bomb Technician for 12 years, a distinguished member of the Texas Explosive Task Force and as an ATF and FBI instructor. Jay was assigned to the unit during the 2018 Austin Serial Bombings, working around the clock until the suspect was apprehended. Jay was highly respected among his peers, full of energy and charm and set the standard for professionalism.  On July 27, 2022, only a few days before his scheduled retirement, Jay took his life. This event will pay tribute to Jay’s life and highlight the importance of first responder wellness.
