APD Arrests Suspect in Connection to East Austin Commercial Burglary Series
On July 7, 2026, Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a commercial burglary at The Cenote Café, located at 1405 E. 7th Street. Officers discovered evidence of forced entry, including a shattered glass door and a safe that had been forced open. Surveillance footage showed a suspect entering the business and leaving through the rear door. Cash was stolen from the business.
A detective assigned to APD's Commercial Burglary & Metal Theft Unit took over the investigation and contacted the business owner, who provided additional interior surveillance footage. After reviewing the footage, the detective recognized the suspect from previous commercial burglary investigations as 56-year-old Larry Ray Vasquez.
On September 18, 2026, an arrest warrant was issued for Vasquez, charging him with Burglary of a Building, a state jail felony. At the time, Vasquez was already in the Travis County Jail on an unrelated burglary charge. He was served with the new charge while in custody.
Detectives immediately contacted the business owner to let her know the case had been solved and an arrest had been made.
Since May 2026, APD's Commercial Burglary Unit has identified Vasquez as a suspect in multiple commercial burglaries throughout Austin. Detectives have solved and charged him with Burglary of a Non-Residence in the following cases:
• APD Case #26-1260331 – 2012 E. 7th Street
• APD Case #26-9012715 – 1202 E. 6th Street
