On July 1, 2026, APD South Metro Tactical Unit, in collaboration with APD’s Air Support Unit, SWAT, and Robbery Units, executed an arrest and search warrant operation that led to the arrest of Omar Martinez inside an apartment in North Austin. Surveillance officers and Air1 tracked Martinez in a vehicle until he appeared to recognize law enforcement's presence and fled into a residence. APD South Metro Tactical and SWAT officers quickly surrounded the location, and Martinez attempted to escape through the backyard but ultimately surrendered to officers without incident, complying with their commands.

During the operation, APD South Metro Tactical executed two signed residential search warrants, resulting in the seizure of two firearms and numerous suspected stolen items with an estimated value of $2,000. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to explore his potential involvement in unsolved burglary and theft cases.

The APD South Metro Tactical Unit is dedicated to proactively investigating top offenders, particularly violent individuals who carry firearms, those who engage in home burglaries, mailbox thefts, and vehicle break-ins, as well as fugitives with felony warrants who evade law enforcement.
