APD Detectives Seek Public’s Assistance in Auto Theft Investigation

The Austin Police (APD) Auto Theft Unit is seeking the community’s assistance in identifying a suspect involved in an auto theft on Thursday, August 13, 2026. At 8:20 a.m., APD officers responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a stolen vehicle in the 9300 block of S. IH 35 SVRD SB. Officers soon located the vehicle traveling westbound on W. Slaughter Lane. When an officer activated the patrol vehicle’s emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop, the suspect fled at a high rate of speed before abandoning the stolen vehicle in the 9500 block of Bentley Garner Lane and leaving the scene on foot. Officers established a perimeter and conducted a K9 search, but the suspect was not located.

The suspect is described as:
   

  • White or Hispanic male
  • 35-45 years of age
  • Thin build
  • Thin beard
  • Tattoo on the inside of his right forearm
