On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, members of the Austin Police Department (APD) North Metro Tactical Unit, North Criminal Investigation Division, and patrol personnel from Adam Sector (Norhtwest Austin) conducted a proactive "shoplifting blitz" operation in the Lakeline Mall area. This operation was designed as an ongoing effort to assist local retailers in combating shoplifting by conducting apprehensions and taking appropriate enforcement action.

As a result of this operation, on June 3, 2025, Austin Police Department (APD) Officers responded to a report at the Kohl’s, located at 11111 Lakeline Blvd., at approximately 12:50 p.m. regarding two individuals who were removing security devices and hiding unpaid merchandise while in the store. When officers arrived, they spoke with store personnel who informed them that the suspects had concealed numerous items in reusable shopping bags and a woman’s purse.

Officers observed the suspects as they exited the store with the stolen items. The suspects then got into a black Tesla with the merchandise and were subsequently taken into custody.

The suspects were identified as:

Ada Johnson, White female, (43 years of age)

Daryl Johnson, White male, (44 years of age)

Officers recovered approximately $1,600 worth of merchandise that had been stolen from Kohl's.

Additionally, they found several other stolen consumer goods valued at around $2,000, which had been taken earlier that day from HEB and Home Depot, and located items that were stolen from a Walmart in Buda, TX, a few days prior.

Officers also discovered evidence of identity theft and fraud, as well as methamphetamine.

As a result of the arrest, several charges were filed, and additional charges are pending:

Ada Johnson: Theft with two prior convictions, a State Jail Felony, and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1 (Methamphetamine), a State Jail Felony.
