On Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 8:09 p.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to multiple calls reporting a shooting in the 11300 block of Menchaca Road. When officers arrived on the scene, they located an individual, later identified as Miguel Guevara, on the ground with apparent gunshots wounds. Mr. Guevara was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased at 8:58 p.m.

APD Homicide Detectives and Austin Forensic Science Crime Specialists responded to process the crime scene. The investigation showed that Guevara had been involved in an argument with his girlfriend that escalated when he pointed a firearm at her. A separate disturbance then occurred between Guevara and his roommate, Christopher Foy, over rent money. During the disturbance, Foy shot Guevara, killing him, and then fled the scene.

A few hours later, the APD Tactical Intelligence Unit, with assistance from APD Patrol Officers, the APD Air Support Unit, and the APD K9 Unit, located Foy in the 4600 block of Nuckols Crossing and arrested him for the murder.
