On Sunday, February 15, 2026, at approximately 12:43 a.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to the call of a shooting at the Gus Garcia Recreation Center at 1201 E. Rundberg Lane. Officers arrived at the scene and located a male, later identified as Jamal Elijah, with apparent gunshot wounds to his body. Despite life-saving attempts, Jamal was pronounced deceased at 1:07 am. A second male who was also shot was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
 
Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists responded to the scene. The investigation has shown that Elijah was at the Recreation Center with friends when confronted by suspect group who shot and killed Elijah.
