Victim (Deceased): Zachary Page, White male, 09/30/1983

On Friday, July 24, 2026, at 2:38 p.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a Shoot/Stab Hotshot call in the intersection of N. IH-35 SVRD NB and Tech Ridge Boulevard. A caller reported that there had been a shooting involving a person in a vehicle and a person experiencing homelessness. The person in the vehicle who used his firearm also called 9-1-1 to report the shooting. When officers arrived on scene, Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) were in the process of providing medical aid to the victim, who was later identified as Zachary Page. Mr. Page was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased at 3:26 p.m. The individual in the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

APD Homicide Detectives and Austin Forensic Science Crime Specialists responded to the crime scene. The preliminary investigation revealed that Mr. Page was standing along the side of the intersection asking for spare change. Witnesses observed Mr. Page banging on an individual’s vehicle. Mr. Page then produced a folding pocketknife, which he used to break the window of the vehicle. The driver then shot him. The driver was interviewed by detectives and has since been released. At this time, no charges have been filed.

The Travis County District Attorney's Office has been notified and is aware this is an ongoing investigation. They will review the evidence upon the completion of the investigation. At this time, due to the fact that charges have not been filed in this case, APD is not naming the suspect.
