Homicide Investigation at 2237 East Riverside Drive

On Monday, June 15, 2026, at 10:47 p.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a call reporting a shooting in the AutoZone parking lot located at 2237 East Riverside Drive. When officers arrived on the scene, they located the victim, later identified as Jose Salgado-Amador, with apparent gunshot wounds. Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) transported Mr. Salgado to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased at 11:56 p.m. 

APD Homicide Detectives and Austin Forensic Science Crime Scene Specialists responded to the scene. The investigation revealed that Mr. Salgado was working as a mechanic in the parking lot when he was confronted by a suspect who demanded property and then shot him before fleeing in a vehicle. The suspect, who has not yet been identified, is described as a Hispanic male between 15 and 20 years old who was last seen wearing a gray hoodie. After the shooting, the suspect ran to a light-colored sedan, which was used to flee the scene.

This case is being investigated as Austin's 27th homicide of 2026.
