Homicide Investigation at 3003 S Lamar Boulevard (Kerby Lane)

On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at approximately 10:16 p.m., Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) and Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to the Kerby Lane restaurant parking lot at 3003 S Lamar Boulevard. Officers arrived and located the male victim on the ground in the parking lot who was later identified as Mark Barbosa. ATCEMS attempted life saving measures, but Barbosa was pronounced deceased at 10:40 p.m.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation showed Barbosa was there to pick up his girlfriend. Jacob Turner was there to pick up his girlfriend as well, along with a friend. Barbosa was approached by Jacob Turner and the altercation escalated into Barbosa being physically assaulted by Turner. The assault caused Barbosa to fall next to a blue Nissan. Turner, his friend, and Turner’s girlfriend all left the parking lot in the Nissan.
The cause of death was found to be blunt force trauma and ruled a homicide.
Turner was booked into the Travis County Jail for 1st Degree Murder.
