On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at approximately 2:13 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a disturbance at 408 East Wonsley Drive. Officers arrived on scene and spoke with one of the subjects who was involved in the disturbance. He was identified as Ronald Mixon. Mr. Mixon stated he had been in a verbal disturbance with his roommate, whom he identified as Robert Saldana. Mr. Mixon stated Saldana came into their apartment yelling and making racial comments towards him, also stating he was going to kill Mr. Mixon. Saldana approached Mr. Mixon and slapped him in the face, which is when Mr. Mixon called 911. Saldana left the scene prior to officers arriving on scene.

Later that day, at approximately 5:13 p.m., officers responded back to 408 East Wonsley Drive for a Shoot/Stab Hotshot call. The caller reported a subject unconscious with blood on the floor. Officers arrived at the scene and found Ronald Mixon deceased inside the apartment, with multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced at 5:28 p.m. A short time later, officers located Saldana at a nearby bus stop. Saldana had one laceration and was subsequently transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation is still ongoing, but it is believed Robert Saldana and Ronald Mixon were in a physical disturbance, and Saldana stabbed Mar. Mixon before walking to the bus stop where he was later taken into custody.

Robert Saldana was arrested and has been charged with 1st Degree Murder.
