On Thursday, April 2, 2026, at approximately 5:42 p.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a Shoot/Stab Hotshot call at the Penske Rental Truck facility located at 8201 Tuscany Way. The caller reported that a male had been shot. When officers arrived, they encountered two individuals next to a male on the ground suffering from visible gunshot wounds. The injured male was later identified as William Rogers. APD officers provided medical assistance until Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) arrived, and subsequently, Mr. Rogers was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 6:52 p.m.

Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists responded to the scene. The investigation showed that William Rogers, Javarus Crumpton, and the third person on scene were acquaintances and worked as movers. They had met at the location to rent a Penske moving truck. An argument arose regarding the rental deposit cost, at which point in time, Crumpton shot Mr. Rogers. Crumpton and the third person remained on scene and are cooperating with the investigation; no arrests have been made.

The Travis County District Attorney’s office has been informed of the incident, and the investigation is active and ongoing.
