Victim (Deceased): Andres Omar Reyes, Hispanic male, 2/7/1991

On Saturday, May 9, 2026, at approximately 12:34 a.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to reports of a shooting at Los Braseros Mexican Restaurant, located at 9207 North Lamar Blvd. One caller indicated that an individual had been shot and that the suspect had fled the scene.

When officers arrived, they discovered the victim, later identified as Andres Omar Reyes, lying on the ground in the parking lot with apparent gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate lifesaving efforts provided by Austin Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS), Reyes was pronounced deceased at 12:46 a.m.

Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists responded to the scene. The investigation has shown that Reyes intervened in a physical altercation involving friends and family from another group when he was shot by a 16-year-old suspect. An employee of the restaurant managed to wrestle the firearm away from the suspect, who subsequently fled the scene and remains at large.
