On September 5, 2026, at approximately 12:43 a.m., Austin Police (APD) patrol officers responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 13300 block of N. FM 620 Road SB. The pedestrian, later identified as John Michael Filley, was transported to a local hospital and succumbed to his injuries on September 10, 2026. The driver remained on scene, was not impaired, and cooperated with the investigation.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 57th fatal crash of 2026, resulting in 57 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2025, 71 fatal crashes resulted in 75 deaths.
