On Sunday, May 3, 2026, at approximately 9:54 p.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a collision that involved a pick-up truck and an SUV in the 2700 block of S. Lamar Boulevard. Two passengers that were traveling in the SUV were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, and one of the two passengers was pronounced deceased. She was identified as Abbi Sofia Romero Aular. Other subjects involved sustained minor injuries. The driver of the pickup truck, identified as Keegan Shirley, was arrested. He is charged with Intoxication Manslaughter with a Vehicle and Intoxication Assault with a Vehicle Causing Serious Bodily Injury.
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 28th fatal crash of 2026, resulting in 28 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2025, 27 fatal crashes resulted in 31 deaths.
