On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 10:22 p.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a collision between a motor vehicle and a pedestrian in the 4900 block of South Congress Avenue. Austin Police (APD) officers and Austin Fire (AFD) attempted life-saving measures, but unfortunately, the unidentified pedestrian was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the vehicle remained at the location and cooperated with the investigation.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 40th fatal crash of 2026, resulting in 40 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2025, 43 fatal crashes resulted in 47 deaths.
