On Sunday, August 9, 2026, at approximately 11:18 p.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a collision involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian in the 8500 block of North Lamar Blvd. The pedestrian, later identified as Margaret Govea, was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 50th fatal crash of 2026, resulting in 50 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2025, 60 fatal crashes resulted in 64 deaths.
