On Sunday, May 31, 2026, at approximately 9:47 p.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a collision between a motorcycle and a motor vehicle in the 9300 block of North Lamar Blvd. The motorcycle rider, later identified as Luis Angel Gomez-Herrera, was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene, was not intoxicated, and is cooperating with the investigation.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 34th fatal crash of 2026, resulting in 34 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2025, 38 fatal crashes resulted in 42 deaths.
