On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 5:56 p.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a collision involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian in the intersection of Dessau Road and Shropshire Boulevard. The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The pedestrian, later identified as Ja’Corian Isaiah Helen, was transported to a local hospital and pronounced deceased on Saturday, April 4, 2026.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 21st fatal crash of 2026, resulting in 21 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2025, 21 fatal crashes resulted in 25 deaths.
