On Monday, May 11, 2026, at approximately 1:54 a.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a collision involving two vehicles in the intersection of FM 973 and Burleson Road. The driver of vehicle #1 was transported to a local hospital. The driver of the second vehicle, later identified as Humberto Espino Vasquez, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 30th fatal crash of 2026, resulting in 30 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2025, 31 fatal crashes resulted in 35 deaths.
