On July 5, 2025, at approximately 9:31 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a single-vehicle collision at the intersection of FM 973 and Spirit Drive. The unidentified driver was pronounced deceased on scene.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 50th fatal crash of 2025, resulting in 54 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2024, 40 fatal crashes resulted in 42 deaths.
