On Sunday, June 14, 2026, at approximately 12:42 p.m., Austin Police (APD) patrol officers responded to a single vehicle collision located at the intersection of Montopolis Drive and Bastrop Highway on the northbound service road. Life saving measures were attempted by Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) on the driver, later identified as Randy Lee Labaff. Mr. Labaff was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 39th fatal crash of 2026, resulting in 39 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2025, 43 fatal crashes resulted in 47 deaths.
