On Saturday, August 1, 2026, at approximately 5:16 a.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a collision that involved a vehicle and a pedestrian in the intersection of Montopolis Drive and Bastrop Highway Hwy SVRD NB.

First responders from Austin Fire (AFD) and Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) provided life-saving measures at the scene. The unidentified pedestrian was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the motor vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 47th fatal crash of 2026, resulting in 47 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2025, 57 fatal crashes resulted in 61 deaths.
