On Sunday, July 13, 2025 at 2:26 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to reports of a crash between a pickup truck and a bicyclist at the intersection of Montopolis Drive and Carnation Terrace. The bicyclist, later identified as Reginaldo Perez, was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas with life threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup truck remained on scene, was not impaired, and cooperated with the investigation.
 
On July 15, Reginaldo Perez was pronounced deceased.
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 51st fatal crash of 2025, resulting in 55 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2024, 42 fatal crashes resulted in 44 deaths.
