On Sunday, April 19th, 2026, at approximately 2:34 a.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a single-vehicle collision at the intersection of North Mopac Expressway service road northbound and North Capitol of Texas Highway. The driver, later identified as Aimee Alexa Lopez, was evaluated by paramedics from Austin Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) and was pronounced deceased on the scene.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 25th fatal crash of 2026, resulting in 25 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2025, 25 fatal crashes resulted in 29 deaths.
