On Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at approximately 7:41 a.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a two-vehicle collision in the intersection of S. IH-35 SVRD NB and E. SH 71 SVRD WB. The crash involved a Jeep Compass, which was occupied by a driver and two juvenile passengers, and a Tesla Cybertruck, which was occupied by the driver.

The two juvenile passengers in the Jeep were transported to a local hospital for further treatment. One of the children, Lilliana Segura, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The other child remains hospitalized with critical injuries. The drivers of both vehicles were also transported to local hospitals for treatment.
 
APD’s Vehicular Homicide Unit responded to investigate the crash. Preliminary investigation shows the Jeep was traveling northbound on the S. IH-35 Service Road and the Tesla was traveling westbound on the E. Ben White Boulevard Service Road. The investigation remains ongoing, and detectives are working to determine the circumstances that led to the collision. Both drivers are cooperating with the investigation, and neither of them were intoxicated at the time of the collision.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 56th fatal crash of 2026, resulting in 56 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2025, 71 fatal crashes resulted in 75 deaths.
