UPDATE: Detectives Arrest Two Suspects in Connection to a Homicide Investigation at 2237 East Riverside Drive

On June 19, 2026, APD Homicide issued a warrant for Israel Medina for Capital Murder. Medina had been out on bond for theft of an automobile.

The same day, multiple warrants were issued for Israel Medina and David Perez Jr. for 1st Degree Aggravated Robbery for a separate incident.

Later that day on June 19, 2026, the Tactical Intelligence Unit, the United States Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, and the Travis County SWAT Team arrested David Perez and Isreal Medina for the warrants at 14011 FM 969. Perez was also charged with 1st Degree Aggravated Robbery for his role in the murder.

UPDATE: APD Homicide Detectives release new images of a suspect in connection to Jose Salgado-Amador's murder. 

Detectives are requesting any information from anyone who was in the area on Monday night or anyone with knowledge of the incident. Anyone with photos, videos, or other potential evidence is requested to share them with APD.

On Monday, June 15, 2026, at 10:47 p.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a call reporting a shooting in the AutoZone parking lot located at 2237 East Riverside Drive. When officers arrived on the scene, they located the victim, later identified as Jose Salgado-Amador, with apparent gunshot wounds. Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) transported Salgado to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased at 11:56 p.m. 

APD Homicide Detectives and Austin Forensic Science Crime Scene Specialists responded to the scene. The investigation revealed that Mr. Salgado was working as a mechanic in the parking lot when he was confronted by a suspect who demanded property and then shot him before fleeing in a vehicle. The suspect, who has not yet been identified, is described as a Hispanic male between 15 and 20 years old who was last seen wearing a gray hoodie. After the shooting, the suspect ran to a light-colored sedan, which was used to flee the scene.
