BevisGriffinFlyer

Please join us for Austin Museum Day as AACHF celebrates the Legacy of Bevis M. Griffin, the “Black Rock Maverick of Texas.

Austin Museum Day is a community event which offers free admission and special programs and activities at museums and cultural institutions

Since 1998, the Austin Museum Partnership has coordinated Austin Museum Day, a community event which offers free admission and includes special programs and activities at museums and cultural institutions across the area.

Co-hosted by the African American Cultural and Heritage Facility and the Austin History Center (AHC), the event will recognize Griffin’s extraordinary contributions to Austin and Texas music and culture, highlighting more than five decades of work as a pioneering musician, multidisciplinary artist, entrepreneur, cultural historian, mental health advocate, and activist.

An art installation chronicling Bevis M. Griffin’s extraordinary journey will be displayed within the AACHF’s Dedrick-Hamilton House, providing a glimpse into his life and contributions. Following the installation, a panel featuring special guests Gavin Lance Garcia (EQ Austin), Jason Crouch (author), Tim Stegall (music journalist), Derrick Lesnau (CEO, SIMS Foundation), and Alex Vallejo (School of Rock) will discuss Bevis M. Griffin’s legacy and his cultural impact on rock music in Texas. The event will feature multimedia elements highlighting the history and stories that shape the community and will be open to all ages.
