Welcome to AFD Explorers Post 370!
The Austin Fire Department (AFD) is proud to partner with the Capitol Area Council: Boy Scouts of America to bring the AFD Explorers Post 370 to the community!
Meetings: Members of our post meet during the school year. In addition to regular session meetings, there will be volunteer opportunities.
Ages: AFD Explorers Post 370 is a co-ed program open to those 14 through 20 years of age.
Curriculum: Explorers will learn basic firefighting, rescue, and EMS skills, and will be introduced to firefighter culture through training and skills. Explorers are issued firefighting gear and safety equipment, and work with members of AFD in the same facilities used to train our professional firefighters.
Expectations: Positive attitude, adventurous spirit, and being ready to get sweaty and dirty!
Regardless of whether or not you choose to become a professional firefighter, our program builds personal and career development, setting you up for success in both work and life. Should you decide to pursue a career in the fire service, your time as an Explorer will give you the knowledge, experience, and networking tools to help you reach that goal.
AFD Explorers Post 370 is an Equal Opportunity program. Participating in the AFD Explorer program does not have any bearing on your standing in any future City of Austin Fire Cadet hiring process.
Our focus is on teamwork and leadership skills, supporting your performance in the Explorer Fire Games in Rowlett, Texas next spring.
