I’m helping make Austin Net-Zero by recycling and encouraging others to recycle.

What inspired you to take action?  ¿Qué te inspiró a tomar acción?

Why wouldn’t someone want to take action? It’s so easy to be green and there are so many benefits – from saving the earth to saving money!

How did you do it?  ¿Cómo lo hiciste?

I recycle any and everything! My yogurt containers become my “Tupperware.” I have a recycle bin for the items I no longer need and I have reusable bags for when I go shopping. Besides recycling, my car is a Ford Fusion hybrid – so that is more earth friendly. I also have my timer for the shower to try to keep it to 5 minutes. And I try not to turn on the AC until I can’t take it anymore! There are so many ways to do it – we just have to be aware of what we are doing when we are doing it.

What's been the toughest part?

Taking shorter showers!

¡Pasar menos tiempo en la ducha!

Have there been any unexpected benefits?  ¿Cuáles son los beneficios inesperados?

I don’t really think of it this way, but I would say the cheaper energy bills!

"It's so easy to be green and there are so many benefits — from saving the earth to saving money!"

What advice do you have for others?  ¿Cuales consejos tienes para todos?

I remind myself regularly how blessed and fortunate I am to have the things that I have – such as electricity, water, air conditioning, heat, etc. We should never take these things for granted – choose to pay it forward for future generations!

Recyclables that are thrown away in Austin could fill the UT Tower 29 times each year. Help keep these items out of the landfill by recycling, upcycling and reusing. Every action counts!
