Austinites can drop off debris from the recent winter storm at the Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant (2210 FM 973, Austin, Texas) 8 a.m.–5 p.m., seven days a week, through May 16. After May 16, the facility will be open 8 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday–Saturday. (Large truck or trailer loads will not be accepted after 4:45 p.m.). The material will be composted and made into Dillo Dirt.

  • Branches
  • Shrubs
  • Leaves 

Not accepted storm debris

Certain materials cannot be composted and therefore are not accepted in this drop-off program. These include:

  • Treated or painted lumber
  • Particle board
  • Construction materials
  • Trash

Drop-off details

The Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant will be accepting storm debris material from Austin residents only, free of charge. Individuals residing outside of the Austin city limits should consult their municipality for storm debris options.

  • A government-issued photo ID is required for entry.
  • COVID-19 safety protocols are in place and are required, including:
    • Temperature screening of all visitors upon entry
    • Social distancing throughout the grounds
    • Face coverings being worn over the mouth and nose throughout the visit
  • The drop off will be self serve.
  • Staff will be available on-site to direct traffic and to verify all the storm debris is free of trash and contamination.
  • The grounds are muddy and could be slippery. Proper footwear is recommended.
