Austin Voters Approve $295 Million Bond Package
AUSTIN, Texas – According to unofficial results from the Nov. 3 election, Austin voters approved two bond propositions totaling $295 million for parks and recreation facilities and public libraries.
Proposition A authorizes $260 million in bond funding for Parks and Recreation improvements and related infrastructure, and land acquisition. Proposition B authorizes $35 million in bond funding for public library improvements, including renovations to the Hampton at Oak Hill Branch Library and design and planning of a future Colony Park Branch Library.
City staff will begin project planning and coordination for the approved bond program. Funding allocations, expenditures, and other project details are expected to be available on the Austin Bond Dashboard in early 2027.
Voters also approved seven of 10 proposed amendments to the City Charter — most were technical adjustments to language to clarify how the City conducts business. More information about each charter amendment is available here. Voters did not approve Propositions D and E, which would’ve deleted language in the Charter providing that the City Council shall meet at least once each week and language requiring the Council to determine its rules and order of business by ordinance. Voters also rejected Proposition I, an initiative led by a political action committee, which would have added an additional layer to the City’s already robust auditing efforts. A recently approved City ordinance requires an external efficiency assessment every three years and that effort is already underway. Details on the assessment are available at austintexas.gov/auditor/austins-efficiency-assessment.
The Nov. 2026 election also provided the opportunity to vote on Austin City Council candidates for Districts 1, 3, 5, 8, and 9. According to unofficial results, Selena Xie has won the District 8 seat, currently held by Council Member Paige Ellis whose second term ends in January. Council Member Zo Qadri will be returning for a second term representing District 9. Districts 1, 3 and 5 appear to be headed for a run-off election, which is scheduled for Dec. 12.
