National Teen Driver Safety Week 2026
Austin Municipal Court is teaming up with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to support National Teen Driver Safety Week, October 18–24, 2026, by encouraging parents and guardians to talk to their teens about safe driving habits.
Traffic crashes are a leading cause of injury and death for 15-18-year-olds in the United States, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Statewide, Texas Department of Transportation data show that 250 teens in this age group were drivers in fatal crashes last year.
Parents and guardians play a vital role in teaching teens how to be responsible behind the wheel. Talking with teens about driving sober, avoiding distractions, obeying speed limits, and always wearing a seatbelt can help teen drivers make safe choices on the road.
Austin Municipal Court invites the public to stop by our informational tables at two community events this October: HopeFest '26 on October 17 and the 7th Annual Austin ISD Police Trunk or Treat on October 24. Court staff will provide information on teen driving safety and answer questions on how teens can get their first driver's license.
