Lions Municipal Golf Course has long been one of the City's most popular courses. In 1924, the Lions Club opened Lions Municipal, the first public golf course in the city. The group leased part of UT's Brackenridge Tract and converted the property into a nine-hole facility. The course was later expanded to 18 holes. The course retained the name "Lions Municipal" or "Muny" after the transfer of the lease to the city in 1936.
Lions has hosted many notable golfers, including Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Sandra Haynie, Tom Kite and Ben Crenshaw. Lions also hosts Texas' oldest amateur tournament, the Firecracker Open.
Lions was selected by the Texas Golf Hall of Fame and added to the Texas Registry of Historic Golf Courses. Lions is also listed on the Registration of National Historical Places by the National Park Service, recognized as one of the first courses in the South to desegregate prior to the Supreme Court decision in Brown V. Board of Education in 1954.
While "Muny" has changed over the years, it remains a quality test to Austin's most loyal golf patrons.
Reservations and Tee Times

Reservations are taken in person when the pro shop opens, and at 7 am by phone at (512) 978-MUNY (6869). Online tee times open at 9 am. Tee times for weekdays are taken seven days in advance; Saturday & Sunday times are taken on the Tuesday before the weekend. For additional information, please call the pro shop.
Maintenance Calendar
Closed for Maintenance: Closed every 3rd Monday of the month, closed Feb 20-21 excluding holidays and major golf tournaments. The Lions' driving range will be closed for Maintenance on Monday, Sept 9th from 9 am-12 pm.
Closed for Aerifying: The course will also be closed 2 full days March 18-19 and May 14-15. Aug. 19, the course will open the following day at 12 noon.
Closed for Overseeding: October 8-9.

- Payment accepted: Credit/Debit cards accepted, no cash please.
- Practice facilities include a driving range (irons only) and putting greens. The Lions' driving range will close on Mondays at 1 pm until further notice.

- Golf Cart rental fee: $18 per Golfer / Non-golfer: No fee for children 12 & under. $10 for persons 13 & up, including pets
